Time to go, past time actually! I say that because I already missed out on the best weather day of the year so far. Sixty plus degrees in January and am down sick on the couch trying not to cough up my socks. Looking out the window only made it worse. That was about a week ago. I’m much better now! So when the highs were scheduled for forty plus I figured not to look a gift horse in the mouth and head south to fish a little blue ribbon water.
My first access choice had 2 vehicles in the parking lot already so I moved on. Can’t blame them much their just doing the same thing I’am trying to do, soak up a little sunshine and clear water. The second choice had one SUV with a couple of people milling around it so I pulled in to check their status. If they were fishing I’d move on this little stream just isn’t big enough for that much traffic. Turns out they were hikers not fishers so the stream was still open. They didn’t even know that there were fish in the creek. I told them there’s not I just wanted to practice my casting.
The streams in this part of the country still haven’t fully recovered from the last couple of seasons of drought and floods. They took a bad hit but today the water looks pretty good. Mother nature has a way of evening things out, just some plans take longer than others. Got even better when I caught a little par marked Rainbow almost right off the bat.
I spent the rest of the day easing my way up stream. Had a little lunch on the gravel bar before turning around and fish my way back down to the access. Never caught another fish. No big deal I never expected the first one. Just good to be out of the house for a while.
On the way back I took the long way and headed more east before heading back north. Crossed over another Blue Ribbon Stream that I’ve got to get back to soon and fish maybe float but that’s a report for another day.
